Buckminster Fuller’s breakthrough inventions

Let us not be too concerned and panicky about the threat of advanced technologies like AI(Artificial Intelligence) to the job security of humanity. AI is a total blessing in disguise in enhancing the standard of living of all humanity. Let us take a holistic outlook to the problem and let’s not jump into the straight jacket by making our conclusions from a specialized view point.

To buttress the point I will be making in my subsequent submissions I will provide a quote by Buckminster Fuller which says “We should move from the absolute notion that everybody has to earn a living(engage in some form of employment). It is a fact today that one in ten thousand of us can make a technological breakthrough capable of supporting all the rest. We keep inventing jobs because of the false idea that everyone has to be employed of some kind of drudgery because, according to the Mathusian and Darwinian theory( theories of world renowned economists and sociologists Charles Darwin and Thomas Malthus) man has to justify his right to exist”.

In his books titled Grunch of Giants and Operating manual for spaceship earth, Buckminster Fuller believed 70% of the jobs on earth were not directly contributing to the life support of the people. Many jobs are just making money from money. Buckminster Fuller emphasized that money is not wealth and that wealth is the organized technological capability to protect, nurture, educate and accommodate the forward days of humans, whereas money is just a medium of exchange and a cash accounting system. Per Buckminster Fuller’s definition of wealth, it is evident our global financial institutions have ignorantly made us believe for decades that having enough money is determinant to having real wealth. Also most jobs involves just moving paper from one desk to another. For example, if you have worked in the corporate world, you will realize that most of the operations within the organization involves paperwork, siting in a state of the art office complex, signing of documents and moving one paper document from one office desk to another. These activities does not add up to the production economy and hence does not add up to advancing the standard of living of humanity.

It is an absolute fact that one person can make a technological breakthrough to take care of at least ten thousand of the population of the world. Advanced breakthrough technologies like the emergence of Artificial Intelligence in the fourth industrial revolution economy is creating a lot of wealth in advancing the standard of living of humanity. The only reason we are not seeing the positive impacts of AI in improving the standard of living of humanity is because unethically, governments(politicians) around the world (especially governments in developed nations) are using global research labs to develop advanced AI technologies for weaponry fixations.

AI must be ethically applied to problem solving and not to be used to destroy our planet . Tech gurus like Elon Musk, Steve Jobs and Bill Gates have all contributed to creating wealth in the global economy with their breakthrough inventions but have all failed to channeling these wealth to enhance the standard of living of humanity since their respective motives have predominantly been profit making. The reason why I have pointed out that these tech gurus have failed is because today, statistically more than 80% of humanity lives in miserable and abject poverty. The aforementioned tech gurus are now billionaires on the face of the earth however, Buckminster Fuller emphasized that it is possible to make everyone on earth to live a billionaire’s lifestyle if and only if these breakthrough technologies are unselfishly harnessed to create wealth and raise the standard of living of all humanity on the face earth. Selfishness is unnecessary according to Buckminster Fuller.

It is also evident that governments (or politicians) around the world for decades have failed in their initiative to create sufficient wealth and redistributing it to the benefit of nations globally. The reason why governments worldwide have failed to create enough wealth for their respective populations is because their policy initiatives are influenced by the theory of scarcity in economics. So therefore governments for decades have been inventing jobs in their respective economies to make sure they provide the man-power to produce enough goods and services in order to increase their gross domestic product (GDP). But contrary to this, due to the emergence of the fourth industrial revolution, advanced technologies such as AI have found ways of doing more with less resources to create an economy of abundance as opposed to the economy of scarcity. This then makes the theory of scarcity meaningless. AI is now the future for wealth creation in the global economy. With an AI revolution, the industrial economy will become what I will call “autonomously automated”. When this is done, humanity is freed of tedious work and people around the world will then focus more of their livelihoods on recreational activities that will enhance their health since good health implies great wealth.
